4. New Business/Current Business Updates

Eurasian Milfoil Update (from Vince Dinolfo)

  • Pine and Stone Lakes were surveyed in the Spring
  • 19.9 acres needed to be treated, which is the smallest treatment area in a while
  • Lakes were treated on June 1st
  • The study cost $4,670 and the treatment cost $13,610 for a total of $18,281
  • LLA is responsible for 20% of those costs
  • In comparison, last year the costs were $55,000, of which $32,000 were LLA’s expense
  • The next survey will be in late July, with treatments planned for some time in August
  • Everyone is hopeful that the treatment area will stay low for the remainder of the year
  • It was noted that the weeds by Outlook Cove should die off once water temps hit 74

Aquatic Control – Valparaiso

  • This company is treating the shoreline of 30 homeowners on Pine Lake
  • This is coordinated by Karon Steerzer
  • If additional homes want to be added to this treatment in the future, contact Karon at karonsteerzer@gmail.com

Lake Water Level Concerns

  • Rain has added approx. six (6) inches to the lake level
  • It is expected that high temps will evaporate much of that excess water level
  • City of LP continually monitors this and pumps as necessary

Unity Grant

  • We have a grant request in to the Unity Foundation for $6,000.00
  • The Unity Foundation will advise us in September if the grant was approved

Funeral Homes

  • LLA has had discussions with local funeral homes regarding donations
  • If families choose, mourners can donate to the LLA in lieu of flowers
  • If any donations are received, the LLA will send thank you notes to donors

Metal Signs

  • Metal signs have been installed with names of all businesses that support the LLA

La Porte Living Magazine

  • Membership info will be included in the water bill each month

Visitor’s Bureau

    • To take place at Huber’s South Annex Boat Launch
    • Baskets will include hot dog, chips and bottled water for $5.00
    • All items needed for sales have been donated by members
  • We will hold our 1st Annual Golf Outing on Sunday, August 23
